Miss Shalisa
Miss Shalisa graduated from BYU with a degree in Public Health and a minor in Statistics. She has been a tutor for elementary to college age students for the past 13 years, mainly in mathematics. As a level 10 gymnast herself, she went on to spend many years both coaching children's gymnastics and running the facilities as the office manager. She has been a (much-loved) substitute teacher in Alpine School District (mainly for younger grades), and fell in love with the young students she taught. This led her to the desire to have a class of her own - and the start of Discovery Den!
Mr. Adam
Coder by trade, entrepreneur by accident, preschool teacher by passion. Mr. Adam is a Realtor, substitute ASD schoolteacher, WFH coder, and BYU sports enthusiast. He graduated from BYU in Communications with minors in Music, Computer Science, Family Life, Psychology and Business. Having worked with local children's service and musical groups for 10+ years, Mr. Adam believes our best hope for the future is to teach hope to the children of today.School Year Calendar

Our Den
Our Den is a bright, welcoming space located in the upstairs of our home and thoughtfully set apart from the rest of the house for preschool use. It’s a place that has been filled with years of laughter, learning, and love as we’ve raised our own children here—and now we’re excited to open it to yours.
Every corner will be designed to help children feel a sense of belonging as they explore, play, create, and grow together. We’re honored to share this special space and to continue the story of learning within these walls—this time with your child as part of our den.
Our Philosophy
At Discovery Den Preschool, we believe young children learn best when they feel safe, happy, and deeply connected. We treat each day as an adventure—inviting children to explore, imagine, and discover through play and hands-on experiences. By prioritizing comfort, enjoyment, and a sense of belonging, we help children grow socially, emotionally, and academically in a way that feels natural and joyful.
Is My Child Ready for Preschool?
All children progress at their own pace, reaching different milestones on a schedule that feels right for them. Below are a few of the Utah state "readiness" criteria to help you determine if your child is prepared for preschool. Do not worry if your child has not reached all of these milestones, we are here to help!

- Can play cooperatively and share.
- Manages emotions reasonably.
- Shows concern for others.
Self-Help & Physical Skills:

- Basic self-care (zipping coats, washing hands).
- Gross motor skills (running, jumping).
- Fine motor skills (holding a pencil).

- Understands routines.
- Shows early literacy (scribbling/writing) and numeracy skills.

Methods
Play should be active, interactive, collaborative, and engaging. We believe the same about learning. Our mixture of talents and interests allows us to bring learning to our students in a number of different ways across the categories of physical, emotional, social and intellectual development.
Although our teaching is all in English, Mr. Adam speaks Spanish and is able to help accommodate children learning the language (se habla español).
